Description
Text by J.F. Duché and A. Danchet, based on Euripides
The composition was begun by Desmarets in 1695 but abandoned by him because of a dispute with Pascal Colasse over rights to set the libretto ; during Desmarets' exile from France, the music was completed by Campra for the 1704 production
Caption title
This ms. corresponds closely to the printed ed. of 1711 (RISM A/1, C 737), though there is no title page and the bass is unfigured ; the wording of stage directions etc. appears to be identical. There is, however , at least one wrong note in the printed ed. which is correct in this ms., which suggests that it was copied either from a corrected copy of the printed ed., or that it is related to the copy used for that ed
Music, text and pagination all appear to be in a single hand
Pencil annotation in a later hand on pages 1: "Musique de Campra" ; however Desmarets' contributions are noted in the body of the work, as in the printed ed
This copy from the Collection of Louise Hanson-Dyer
This copy bound with ms. (different hand) of Thezée / Lully, in a v. with the spine title: IPHIGENIE ET THESEE
