Holograph. Title supplied by cataloguer. Paries quidem filium sed virginitatis non pacieris detrime[n]tum... on recto of leaf. Some spell it Paris quidem.. Paries quidem filium sed virginitatis non pacieris detrime[n]tum Origin most probably France or Belgium (Flanders) as reflects Franco-Flemish practice of some of the black and white initials lack square notation on staves of 4 red lines, on vellum. Quadratic notation black ink on staves of 5 lines, on vellum. Rubrication in red three initials rubricated in red and blue. Recto of leaf numbered XXI in red ink. The Gradual (Latin: graduale or responsorium graduale) is a chant or hymn in the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist for many Christian denominations. In the Tridentine Mass (post Council of Trent, 1555) it is sung after the reading or chanting of the Epistle and before the Alleluia, or, during penitential seasons, before the Tract. In the Mass of Paul VI the gradual corresponds to the Responsorial Psalm. There is the option to replace this psalm with the gradual, but its use is extremely rare. It is part of the Proper of the Mass.
