The map is Ptolemy's Asiae I A woodblock printed map of Pontus, Bithynia and surrounding areas (Anatolia) , with original hand colour. Pontus is a historical Greek designation for a region on the southern coast of the Black Sea, located in modern-day eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey. Bithynia was an ancient region, kingdom and Roman province in the northwest of Asia Minor, adjoining the Propontis, the Thracian Bosporus and the Euxine Sea.
