Asian, Middle Eastern and Ethiopic Manuscripts

Permanent URI for this collection

These Asian manuscripts contain interesting examples of non-codex books. The palm leaf books are South East Asian, leaves are treated and written on with ink. They are usually tied together on a string and fan out in an accordion style. The Tibetan manuscript is made of Daphne leaf paper, pulped and made into a writing surface. It contains Buddhist prayers and is covered by loose wood boards.
