Medieval Manuscripts

The collection comprises a range of Medieval manuscripts, varying in age and size. Usually made of treated animal skin, vellum, they are handwritten and illuminated. The illuminations (pictures) are often done with inks made of precious stones and gold leaf. Manuscripts were still produced after the invention of printing in the 1450s, there was a long period of crossover, before printing gained supremacy.
